3/25/13 - Unlike the
Miami Heat who have managed to harvest all the media attention, the Indiana Pacers have quietly climbed their way up the Eastern Conference standings. The Pacers won the season series (2-1) against the Heat and have a third straight postseason appearance secured. Indiana still has five games left at
Bankers Life Fieldhouse; two of the five teams (
OKC Thunder and
Brooklyn Nets) have also punched their ticket to the postseason. Pacers tickets to those games are averaging $180 and $111 respectively.
BOOM baby! The Indiana Pacers, who have struggled mightily to regain relevance after the retirement of long-distance sharpshooter Reggie Miller, have made great strides over the last couple of seasons, and this year are among the NBA's elite teams, standing in first place in the Central Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference behind only Miami. The Pacers are truly getting the job done through a complete team effort, as there is almost no single dominant player on the squad who is a leaguewide statistical leader. Forward Paul George could be said to be the team's leader, as he leads the squad in scoring and steals (and a leaguewide top ten in the latter), and is second in rebounding behind center Roy Hibbert. Fellow forward David West stands second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding; Hibbert is the only other Pacer who is in the NBA's top ten in any category, as he stands in the top five in blocked shots. Also providing major contributions are guards George Hill and Lance Stephenson; while bench strength comes from Tyler Hansbrough and Ian Mahinmi. Coach Frank Vogel has done a fine job of getting the most from his roster, and the basketball-mad faithful who attend games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse are enjoying life back near the top of the
NBA.
