Toronto Blue Jays News – 2013 Blue Jays Updates
2013 figures to be one of the most significant seasons for the Blue Jays in recent memory. In 2012, the Jays managed a mediocre 73-89, good for 4th in the AL East and 20 games out of the MLB playoffs. However, their extensive offseason activity has many fans and odds-makers looking to the World Series. Coming into
Spring Training, Toronto's the favorite in Vegas to win the World Series.
After manager John Farrell was released to take the same position with the Red Sox, the Jays rehired former manager John Gibbons. Gibbons will have a stable of new talent to work with. In free agency, the Blue Jays signed 2012 All-Star MVP Melky Cabrera and infielder Maicer Izturis. In a move that sent shockwaves through the baseball world, Toronto made a blockbuster trade with the
Miami Marlins, acquiring all-stars Mark Buerhle, Josh Johnson, and Jose Reyes. The Jays were also able to acquire 2012 NL CY Young winner R.A. Dickey from the Mets and sign him to a 2-year contract extension. Dickey will be the opening day starter on 4/2 at home against the Indians.
It remains to be seen whether all the new talent can mesh with Jose Bautista and the remaining 2012 Jays to challenge the
Yankees,
Orioles,
Rays, and
Red Sox, for supremacy in the ultra-competitive AL East. Fans hoping to see how the season plays out at the
Rogers Centre can expect to pay an average of about $84 per ticket for Blue Jays tickets, good for 10th highest in the league and 8% higher than league average. Despite their all-star roster, the Toronto Blue Jays tickets only average $66 on the road, 20th highest in the league.
