San Diego Padres 2014 News and Updates

4/14/14- The San Diego Padres have seemingly bounced back after a slow start to the season, winning their most recent series against tough adversaries: the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers came into Petco Park hitting .278 and left hitting .191, thanks to the Padres' promising pitching staff who shut them out on Friday (0-6). In other good news, SD just signed third base slugger Jedd Gyorko to a six-year contract extension worth $35 million. San Diego will look to hone their pitching skills when they host the Rockies this week for a four game series (4/14-4/17), followed by a weekend match-up against the Giants (4/18-4/20). The cheapest San Diego Padres tickets of the week are offered on Tuesday and Wednesday for $12, followed by $19 on Friday.

4/7/14 - The San Diego Padres have had a rough start to their season, dropping four straight games (2-4 record) after one week of baseball. The Padres lost both their home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and their road series against the Miami Marlins thanks to poor offensive play. See if they can bounce back with multiple wins over the Indians in Cleveland this week and the Detroit Tigers at Petco Park this weekend. Score cheap San Diego Padres tickets from 4/7-4/9: just $2 for Outfield Bleachers seats. Their games against the Tigers (4/11-4/13) are a bit pricier, but you can still get-in for as little as $17.

4/1/14 - The San Diego Padres quieted their noisy SoCal neighbors when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1, in the team's season opener. The Dodgers blew a one-run lead (Ryu threw seven shutout innings) when their closer Brian Wilson took the mound and the Padres answered with three runs, starting with Seth Smith's tying home run drive. San Diego Padres tickets are still available today for $19 and tomorrow for $18 at Petco Park. See if they can finish off their NL West opponents and start the season off with a statement-making campaign!

3/24/14 - The Padres have been nothing short of exciting through Cactus League play this year. Most recently, Will Venable and Carlos Quentin homered while Chase Headley drove in three runs on Sunday over the Rangers. Aside from tonight's match against the Cubs, the San Diego Padres have just two games left of Spring Training before Opening Night! Grab some cheap San Diego Padres tickets before the start of regular season with their final game at Peoria Stadium: get-in for just $7 this Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. Instead of playing an Opening Day game, the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers will kick off the MLB with an Opening Night game on March 30 at Petco Park—you can get in for as low as $40 this Sunday!

3/18/14 - With Spring Training winding down, most teams are looking to finalize their Opening Day rosters. The Padres are still determining which player remaining will get the job of backup first baseman and RH pinch-hitter: Kyle Blanks, Tommy Medica and Xavier Nady are candidates remaining in contention. While everyone else is gearing up for Opening Day, the San Diego Padres have less than two weeks to prepare for Opening Night against the Los Angeles Dodgers (March 30). San Diego Padres tickets for the first regular season game of the year average $122 a seat at Petco Park. Catch them for cheaper during the remaining Spring Training games, like $42 to get into their Saturday match against the Chicago White Sox.

3/10/14 - The San Diego Padres infield may be lighting up Peoria Stadium with Headley, Cabrera, Alonso and Gyorko working well together, but injuries have stalled the outfield this spring. San Diego is unlucky with the results of Cameron Maybin's injury update: the center fielder will miss 2-3 months with a biceps injury and will likely be replaced by Will Venable. San Diego Padres tickets are a steal this week: get-in for $11 on Tuesday against Oakland, and $15 on Thursday against Milwaukee. Tickets for the highly anticipated Dodger-Padres matchup on Friday range from $38 - $53.

3/3/14 - The San Diego Padres are not only winless to start off Spring Training, but the franchise took a major blow this week with the loss of OF Cameron Maybin for 2-3 months due to a ruptured bicep—just one day after the slugger hit an impressive homerun. The Padres lost back-to-back games against Miami to open-up Cactus League play, followed by two losses (Royals and Reds) and one tie (Dodgers) over the weekend. The young pitchers in rotation have ushered San Diego's grim early record, but change will come soon, as these inexperienced players gain more confidence and momentum with each passing day. Get this team back into the groove with San Diego Padres tickets for Week 2 of Spring Training! The cheapest ticket of the week comes on Thursday's match against the Rangers for $10.

2/25/14 - The San Diego Padres hit a little bump in the road just a couple of days before their first spring training game against the Seattle Mariners. Third baseman Chase Headley suffered a calf strain during a camp drill, and is projected to miss two to three weeks for injury rehab. Let's hope he gets healthy in time for Opening Day; the infielder missed last year's opening game because of a thumb fracture garnered during spring training. The Padres' first game has dropped by $4 in price, form $14 to just $10 to get into Peoria Stadium this Friday. San Diego Padres tickets average $35 across spring training.

2/11/14 - Padres general manager Bud Black believes the revamped 2014's San Diego squad will be the one to take the franchise to the top, as it boasts superb balance across the park and core players in their prime. As long as Carlos Quentin, Chase Headley and Cameron Maybin have recovered well from last year's surgeries, the Padres will have a promising season ahead. The entire team will be reported for Spring Training within the week, and you can see them go toe-to-toe against rivals up the coast, the Seattle Mariners, for $14 in their first game (2/28) of spring.

1/30/14 - The San Diego Padres and their fans cannot wait until much of their talented roster make their return for Spring Training, after a host of injuries gave them their fifth losing season out of six. This winter has seen major moves by the Padres' front office in an effort to boost their chances of competing in their tough division. In fact, early forecasts predicts San Diego as the NL sleeper team of the year, so get ready to see this team bounce back! San Diego Padres tickets run $54 on average this spring.

San Diego Padres 2014 Season

The San Diego Padres possess a talented squad, unfortunately plagued by the most injuries to a starting line up in the majors (including sluggers Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin), compounded by PED suspensions (to Everth Cabrera and Yasmani Grandal). These calamities gave the franchise its third consecutive losing season last year. Additionally, baseball fans everywhere suffered a heartbreaking blow, when iconic broadcaster Jerry Coleman, 89, passed away earlier in winter. In his wake, the Padres have put the pedal to the metal this offseason, spending so much money on the free agent market, they're catching up to their glitzy neighbors to the north, with $80 million to expend.

The San Diego Padres may be a small-market team, but that hasn’t stopped them from making big-market moves this winter: SD added starting pitcher Josh Johnson, LH Zach Braddock, RH Blaine Boyer and RH reliever Joaquin Benoit. So much optimism has been vested in this franchise that the Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers, have been chosen to open up the first Sunday Night Baseball game of the 2014 season. It looks like the Padres have done all they can to compete in one of the hardest divisions in MLB, the NL West, watch them make a run for playoffs with San Diego Padre tickets today!

2013 Season

The San Diego Padres struggled through much of 2012, eventually overcoming a very slow start to the season to finish fourth in the ultra-competitive National League West Division. Not long before the All-Star break, the club was mired in last place with one of the worst records in all of MLB, but turned things around somewhat with a decent second half of the season, however, the damage had been done. On the other hand, the Padres reaped the benefits of a career year by third baseman Chase Headley, who led the NL in runs batted in, while leading the Padres team in most offensive categories, as well as garnering his first Gold Glove Award. The pitching cupboard looks pretty bare for the Padres going into 2013. Only two pitchers — Clayton Richard, who emerged as the Padre ace in 2012; and Edinson Volquez, second to Richard in most categories while leading he squad in strikeouts — pitched sufficient innings to qualify for the NL earned-run average title. Huston Street returns as the team's closer after leading the squad in saves last season. Padre fans at Petco Park have to be hoping for a resurgence in 2013!

San Diego Padres tickets average $78 this season for MLB games at Petco Park. The 2013 Padres schedule features must-see home series with the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Francisco Giants; and Interleague games with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees series in early August will be the most expensive of the season; tickets average $175, more than double the average Padres tickets in San Diego. Padres fans looking to find a deal will find a number of games under $50, including matchups with the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Nationals. Cheap Padres tickets will be sold in the Outfield at most Petco Park games. On the road, Padres tickets average $58, the second best MLB tickets deal this season. Only the Oakland A's have lower average road game tickets prices.
