2016 Pittsburgh Pirates News
Just when it looked like the Pittsburgh Pirates were going to get the sweep over National League leaders the Chicago Cubs, they go and blow it 5 - 6 in the final matchup. The Pirates had taken home the two previous wins, blowing the Cubs out of the water 12 - 6 on Saturday night. Sunday’s loss was particularly brutal, as Pittsburgh had taken the early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Unfortunately, the Cubs came storming back to thwart the home team and avoid the sweep. The Pirates will now embark on a road trip before returning back to PNC Park on Tuesday, July 19 to host the Milwaukee Brewers. Tickets are $11.
Now that the season is halfway over, the Pittsburgh Pirates have some work to do. They are currently ranked third in the National League Central Division with a record of 38 wins and 41 losses. Three of those wins recently came against the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom the Pirates hosted last weekend. It looked like they were going to get the sweep on Monday night, but the Dodgers managed to pull out the win 5 - 4. Still, the series provided some much-needed motivation as Pittsburgh heads into the second half of the season. Catch them at their next home game against the Chicago Cubs on Friday, July 8. Tickets are $29.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a rough couple of days. The Pirates spirits were high from a couple of wins, but those spirits were quickly crushed when they faced off against the New York Mets. The Mets basically annihilated the Pirates the entire game, scoring 11 runs in total. The Pirates were able to scratch in a couple of runs in the ninth inning, ending the game at 2-11. The biggest problem about this loss is that the Mets were missing some key players and were still able to crush the Pirates. Watch the Pirates in their next three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Tickets are still available and start at $43 each.
The Pittsburgh Pirates absolutely demolished the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. They not only beat the visiting team, they blew them out 12-1. Pittsburgh fans knew it was going to be a good night when three runs were scored in the bottom of the third. Then, they tacked on three more unanswered runs in the third. The Diamondbacks continued to show no signs of life as the Pirates scored another set of three runs each in the sixth and seventh innings. It was a beautiful display for fans at the game, who may as well have been at a home run derby. Tickets to tomorrow’s closing game against the Diamondbacks start at $7.
Long innings were a factor for the Pirates versus Cardinals in St. Louis Sunday. Both teams had 33 pitches in at least one inning, resulting in tired arms and an active bullpen. Gerrit Cole started for the Pittsburgh Pirates and lasted four innings while managing to keep his opponents scoreless. St. Louis starting pitcher Michael Wacha performed well, but a two-run blast from John Jaso gave Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead. By the end of the night, the Pirates had scored seven more and got the eventual 10-5 win. They’ll head to Chicago this weekend for a series against the Cubs before returning to Pittsburgh to take on the Atlanta Braves. Tickets for Monday, May 16, start at less than $10—get yours today!
The Pittsburgh Pirates absolutely demolished the Colorado Rockies on the road in Denver last night, beating the home team 6-1. It was an embarrassing night for the Rockies, who struggled to get any offense going in between bouts of bad weather. The Pirates, on the other hand, scored in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings and ultimately won the game. This is just the first of four games in Denver, so be sure to look out for a potential sweep. Pittsburgh will return to PNC Park on Friday, April 29 to take on the Cincinnati Reds. Tickets are already available starting at prices as low as $18. Secure your seats now!
The final week of Spring Training saw the Pirates have a few losses, but they ended strong. They tied the Red Sox on March 30 and then beat the Rays 13-8. Francisco Lariano is scheduled to start on the mound for Opening Day, which makes it his third consecutive season to begin. The Pirates versus Cardinals game is the fist regular season game for the whole league. You can still get tickets to catch the action in person, with prices starting at $59.
The new season is nearly here for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Currently, they are getting their footing in the preseason. While the Pirates were able to win their first preseason match, against the Detroit Tigers, they have not fared as well since. Right now, the Pirates have a record of 5-10.
