Oakland Athletics News – 2013 A's Updates
The 2012 A's season was one of their best in recent memory. After trailing the division leading
Rangers by 13 games at the end of June and by 5 games with only 9 to play, the A's were able to catch up and clinch the division title by defeating Texas in the final game of the regular season. Despite losing a hard-fought ALCS to the
Tigers, Oakland far surpassed expectations for the season. After winning the 2012 AL Manager of the Year award, Bob Melvin looks to return to the playoffs in 2013. Oakland had a relatively quiet offseason but should be aided by the acquisition of catcher John Jaso, outfielder Chris Young, and shortstop Jed Lowrie. The A's also acquired Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki "Hero" Nakajima, who was a consistent .300 hitter in the Japanese league. Oakland hopes Hero will have as effective a rookie year as Cuban slugger Yoenis Cespedes did for the team in 2012. Cespedes looks to continue his development after batting .292, hitting 23 home runs, and finishing 2nd in AL Rookie of the year voting.
The A's begin their division title defense on 4/1 at home in their season opener against the
Mariners. Get-in price is around $27 with Oakland A's tickets averaging $79. Overall, average price to see a game at the
Oakland Coliseum in 2013 is $59, 16% below league average and lowest of any 2012 playoff team. The most inexpensive A's games come in the month of April, when A's tickets average just $42. Currently, September is the next cheapest month to A's baseball with an average price of $51. Expect this number to rise if the A's manage to repeat their 2012 late-season performance.
