In an effort to trim payroll this offseason the Marlins sent pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes, outfielder/infielder Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck to the
Toronto Blue Jays. Pitchers Anthony DeSclafani, Henderson Alvarez, and Justin Nicolino along with catcher Jeff Mathis, outfielder Jake Marisnick, and infielders Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria were added to the Marlins roster.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the Friday Spring Training Yankees Marlins game is sold out on the primary market. The rivals will not play at Marlins Park during the 2013 regular season.
