Kansas City Royals 2014 News and Updates

4/14/14- The Kansas City Royals had a decent start to the season, winning both series against the White Sox and Rays, but slid significantly this weekend due to three consecutive losses. The Minnesota Twins swept the Royals in dominant fashion, with a KC offense that has racked up the second-worst run differential in the AL (-14). The Royals will try to snap out of their funk in their final three games (versus Houston) before returning home to host a rematch with the Twins. Lock in cheap Kansas City Royals tickets for both of these match-ups: pay just $6 apiece on Wednesday in Houston and Sunday in Kansas City to see your Royals bounce back.

4/7/14 - The Kansas City Royals are 2-3 after one week of baseball. The squad lost two straight to AL Central titans, the Detroit Tigers, before avoiding a potential sweep with last Thursday's rained-out game (postponed until June 19). Later in the week, they went on to claim the series against the Chicago White Sox. Next up for the Royals get a visit from the Tama Bay Rays, before starting their road trip with a series in Minnesota against the Twins. Despite KC's improved offensive play over the weekend, the Royals are the only team left in the MLB to have not yet hit a homerun. See them take on the leaders of the AL East (Rays) with cheap Kansas City Royals tickets—just $4 or $5 to get in from 4/7-4/9! If you're looking for affordable on-the-road bargains, look no further: get-in for $5 to see KC at Minnesota on Friday (4/11) and $4 on Sunday (4/13).

4/1/14 - In one of the most anticipated Opening Day matchups of 2014, the Kansas City Royals fell to the Detroit Tigers (3-4) in an inter-division thriller. Despite taking the early lead, Kansas City reliever Wade Davis was charged with the loss after surrendering a game winning single in the ninth. The Royals have two more shots at the Tigers this week: get-in for $3 tomorrow and just $1 on Thursday to see if they can win-out and take the series. The Royals will play their first home game of the year at Kauffman Stadium this Friday against the Chicago White Sox (get-in for $31).

3/24/14 - Until next year, Arizona! The Kansas City Royals will play their final game at Surprise Stadium tomorrow against the Mariners (tickets start at $43). The franchise is looking into a troublesome situation in the final days before the close of Cactus League: Omar Infante is dealing with a bone spur in his elbow, and since KC is past the deadline for the disabled list, Infante may be forced to miss at least 15 games if he gets worse after Spring Training. Looking to rest him up before the start of the regular season, the infielder will likely sit out of Tuesday's game against Seattle and Wednesday's game against San Diego (get-in for $7). The Kansas City Royals will take on the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on March 31 for Opening Day; prices for this division matchup range from $56 - $402.

3/18/14 - With just two weeks left until the official start of the season, Kansas City finally named their starting pitcher for Opening Day. The Royals have Yordano Ventura slated in the prime spot opposite the Detroit Tigers and their ace Justin Verlander on March 31. Kansas City Royals tickets for Opening Day average the third highest price across the MLB, at $206. You can get much cheaper Royals tickets if you catch them during Spring Training! See the best hitter in the Cactus League, Mike Moustakas, who leads in Arizona with a .486 batting average and 15 RBIs for $48 against the Reds (3/19) or $52 against the Angels (3/20).

3/10/14 - The Kansas City Royals are thanking their lucky stars that they have bullpen depth with talent, after news came of Luke Hochevar's season-ending injury. The reliever will have Tommy John surgery in the next couple weeks, after experiencing discomfort in his elbow after his penultimate pitch on Monday against the White Sox. With three weeks until Opening Day, the Royals have declared James Shield as their starter against Detroit. Kansas City Royals tickets start at $25 on Tuesday against the Dodgers, $19 on Friday against the Athletics and $36 on Saturday against the Cubs.

3/3/14 - Though the Kansas City Royals kicked off Spring Training with a loss to the Texas Rangers, the team bounced right back to achieve a strong 3-2 record to start. Part of the rally is thanks to Mike Moustakas, who homered twice in his first two at-bats, spearheading KC's 5-3 victory over the Cubs on Sunday. After he was hit by a pitch, shortstop Starlin Castro went to steal second, but strained his hamstrings during the move, and will sit out for the next week. The exciting game drew a record-breaking crowd for Cactus League attendance, at 14,680 fans. Get Kansas City Royals tickets for more heart-pumping action this spring! The cheapest Royals game of Week 2 is this Thursday (get-in for $14) against the White Sox, while the most expensive get-in price is this Friday against the Giants (get-in for $43).

2/25/14 - Last year's resurgence of the Kansas City Royals came on the back of their impeccable defense and impressive pitching. By signing pitcher Jason Vargas and re-signing Bruce Chen, the Royals added depth at the starting rotation and their defense is looking as strong as ever during the first days of camp. Last year's underwhelming play by Billy Butler was uncharacteristic, and if he bounces back, he could be the key to making KC's offense more productive and explosive. Get Kansas City Royals tickets for spring training, at a $37 average.

2/11/14 - It's been a long time since such excitement buzzed around the Kansas City Royals, but after a feverish yet futile Wild Card berth last season, all eyes are on KC this spring. Will they get that fire going down in the Arizona desert? The first team workout is on 2/20, and their first game is against the Texas Rangers seven days later. With new standouts Omar Infante, Jason Vargas, Norichika Aioki, Kansas City is primed for another run. Join the Royals for their first Spring Training game: tickets start at just $12.

1/27/14 - The Kansas City Royals did exactly what they should have done in the offseason, making all the necessary moves to fill the weakest holes in the outfield and infield position, sparing their bolstered bullpen for a better lineup. Norichika Aoki and Omar Infante are definite upgrades at their positions, making a postseason run highly plausible for KC as we head into Spring Training! Get your Kansas City Royals tickets, averaging $38 at Surprise Stadium!

Kansas City Royals 2014 Season

Coming out of last season, the Kansas City Royals had glaring problems in both the infield and outfield. So, it makes sense that the Royals traded lefty reliever Will Smith to the Brewers in exchange for right fielder Norichika Aoki and signing free-agent second baseman Omar Infante so far in the offseason. The improvement on the field will make pitchers Jeremy Guthrie and Jason Vargas more effective in their jobs, while Dodgers All-Star pitcher Brad Penny has been invited to training camp to add some experience to the rotation.

Although the Royals just missed the AL Wild Card spot last year, Kansas City’s calculated moves have made them even stronger favorites for playoff contention this time around, coming off 2013 with their first winning record in a decade and achieving a franchise-best season since 1989. Additionally, with the Prospect Lists emerged, the Royals boast some of the highest numbers, tying the Chicago Cubs with seven players named in the top 100. Last year, the Royals also set a team and league record for most wins in history during Spring Training, so don’t miss out!

2013 Season

The Kansas City Royals have beefed up their pitching staff by acquiring James Shields, Ervin Santana, and Wade Davis this offseason. In addition, the Royals re-signed Jeremy Guthrie as a free agent. These four starting pitchers along with Luke Hochevar, Bruce Chen, and Luis Mendoza (who are looking to make the 5 man rotation) currently have a 2.29 ERA over 19 2/3 innings.

The Royals begin Spring Training unbeaten which has regular season Royals baseball tickets up 27% since Spring Training began. The average Kansas Royals ticket is $57, still sixth cheapest in the League. The fact that the Royals have had previous success in Spring Training and yet have still not had a winning season in a decade, could be a factor in cheap Royals tickets. Royals Spring Training tickets are averaging $34 and have seen little change as a result of the Royals Spring Training winning ways. The most expensive Spring Training game will be played against the Los Angeles Dodgers (3/20).

Behind Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium (4/8) and the New York Yankees series in May, the rivalry series against the St. Louis Cardinals is the most expensive home game(s). On average Cardinals vs Royals tickets will cost $119 (5/28) and $115 (5/27) per seat. Opening Day KC Royals tickets against the Minnesota Twins are 54% more expensive than the second most expensive game. Other notable series on the Royals schedule include the Boston Red Sox (8/8 - 8/11) and Oakland Athletics (7/5 - 7/7).

Last year the KC Royals hosted the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The 2013 MLB All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field.
