Houston Astros News – 2013 Astros Updates

3/27/13 - Hoping to promote the in-state rivalry between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros, the MLB has scheduled the opening game of the 2013 season between the two teams at Minute Maid Park in Houston. All other Opening Day games will be played the following day. Astros Opening Day tickets are averaging $75, down $14 a seat in the last month. With series against the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, and Seattle Mariners this month – the Astros will be working hard to prove that they are better than they have been the past two years.

The 2013 season can be considered a new beginning for the Houston Astros franchise. Following a disappointing 2012 campaign, the Astros will sport a new logo, new uniforms, and most importantly a new division. Houston will spend their first year in the AL West where they will compete against divisional foes the Angels, A's, Mariners, and Rangers. Most games in Houston are quite affordable, averaging about $61, 23% lower than the league average and 23rd highest in the league. With one of the youngest teams in the league, the Astros will look for leadership from newly acquired veterans Carlos Pena and Erik Bedard. The Astros may struggle in their new division but expect to see the emergence of young, talented names such as second baseman Jose Altuve and pitcher Lucas Harrell. With the worst record in the MLB in 2012, there is nowhere to go but up.
