Chicago Cubs News - 2013 Cubs Baseball Updates

3/27/13 – The Chicago Cubs may have the most expensive ticket in MLB, but the team’s average ticket price in April is 8th cheapest in the League. Apart from Cubs Opening Day tickets against the Milwaukee Brewers April 8th, cheap Cubs tickets under $20 are available for every home game this month. With Matt Garza and Scott Baker out this month due to injury, the Cubs starting five will need to step up – specifically Jeff Samardzija and Edwin Jackson putting in quality starts. The Cubs April home schedule is highlighted with a 4-game series against the reigning World Series Champs, San Francisco Giants, where tickets are averaging $44. Following the Cubs home opening series against the Brewers and that against the Giants, they’ll play the Texas Rangers ($41) and San Diego Padres ($33) at Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs would probably like to forget that 2012 even happened, finishing fourth out of five teams in the competitive National League Central Division, six games ahead of now-departed Houston, who will contest 2013 in the American League, but 18 games in arrears of Pittsburgh. As a team the Cubbies were near the bottom in most of the major offensive measurements — 29th out of 30 teams in on-base percentage, 27th in slugging percentage, 28th in runs scored — which can only mean there's plenty of room for improvement in 2013. Pitching was not much better — 24th in earned run average, 20th in batting-average against, 26th in WHIP (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched). Alfonso Soriano led the Cubbies in the power stats, while shortstop Starlin Castro led in batting average, and David DeJesus was tops in on-base percentage. Cubs pitching was a huge problem last season; only one player, Jeff Samardzija, had sufficient innings pitched in 2012 to qualify for the ERA title. Samardzija also led the team in wins and strikeouts, so much will be expected from him in 2013. Unfortunately for the Cubs, they won't be able to spend all season playing Atlanta, the New York Mets, and San Diego, the three teams, aside from the Astros, the Cubs had winning records against in 2012; but with a hot dog in one hand, a cold drink in the other, and the sun shining overhead, a day at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field will always be a good time.

Chicago Cubs tickets at Wrigley Field average $107, tied with the Washington Nationals as the second most expensive MLB tickets in 2013. The Cubs schedule features home series with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and South Side-rivals Chicago White Sox. Cubs fans and tourists looking to buy cheap Cubs baseball tickets will find them as low as $8 in the Upper Deck at select home games. On the road, Cubs tickets average $85, more than $20 less per ticket than at home.
