Fenway Park, but they aren’t cutting ticket prices. Boston has the 3rd most expensive ticket in MLB this April with series at home against the
Baltimore Orioles,
Tampa Bay Rays,
Kansas City Royals,
Oakland Athletics, and
Houston Astros. The Red Sox home opener will be April 8th against the Baltimore Orioles. Red Sox Opening Day tickets are priced from $52 (down $23 since February) in the Bleachers to $846 for a Field Box and average $188. If you wait two days, you can see the same two teams play for an average of $40. The cheapest series in April will come against the A’s with tickets available for under $10 to each of the three games.
After long being the darlings of the American League, the Boston Red Sox finally crashed to earth in 2012 with their first losing record since 1997, and finishing last in the highly-competitive American League East for the first time since 1992. Although well supported by the Fenway Park faithful, the regime of first year skipper Bobby Valentine struggled both on the field as well as off, with Valentine being responsible for a number of headline incidents which proved corrosive to team chemistry. As well, several key players struggled with injuries, most notably DH David Ortiz, who was limited to just 90 games in 2012.
Even still, Big Papi finished second on the team in homers to catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and was getting on base at a .415 clip. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez was the only Bosox player with sufficient appearances to qualify for the batting title to hit .300. Only two starting pitchers for the Red Sox qualified for the ERA title (162 or more innings pitched) — Clay Buchholz, who was 11-8 with a 4.56 ERA and 129 strikeouts; and Jon Lester, who was 9-14, with an ERA of 4.82 and 166 K's.
