Beyonce and Female Empowerment: Then and Now
No matter who you are, you have to respect Beyonce for her serious talent, both at singing and dancing, her formidable career and her progressive, empowered brand. Formation is one of the first songs that comes to mind when people think of Beyonce and female empowerment, but it’s definitely not the only one. Here are two awesome songs where Beyonce stood up for women everywhere and made them feel like they could “run the world.” These will definitely get you excited for the Beyonce Boston show in Foxborough, MA, on June 3.
At the young age of 19, Beyonce was already coming into her own as a feminist. The song, used in the soundtrack of the 2000 remake of Charlie’s Angels, talks about being a woman who pays for herself, has her own life, won’t settle for anything less than equality in relationships and encourages other women to do the same.
The phrase “I woke up like this” from Beyonce’s 2014 song Flawless got so popular that it extended beyond the stage and permeated social media. Tons of people, including some celebrities like Lena Dunham of Girls, posted pictures with that phrase as the caption. Though sometimes used as a joke, this phrase delivers a serious message that women everywhere should have confidence in their appearance and self-worth.
If that doesn’t get you excited about the Beyonce Gillette Stadium show, nothing will! Tickets are bound to sell out fast, so snag yours soon. Tickets start at about $85 on the low end and go up to thousands per person.
