Immediately following the immense popularity of Sgt. Pepper, lush concept albums loomed large on the musical horizon. It was then that the Moody Blues delivered the right sound at the right time, topping the charts with the 1967 album Days of Future Passed which bore the hit singles “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon.” The band’s psychedelic experimentation with taped loops of symphonic string and brass instruments and a then-new electronic musical device called a Mellotron, the Moody Blues conjured a classically-inspired sound unlike any other heard at the time.
