11/25/14 - The charismatic and talented James Taylor played to a crowd of 6,000 fans in Florida at the Jacksonville Veterans Museum last Wednesday night. At 66 years old, he played a set which lasted over two hours and that included plenty of his beloved tunes from the 1970s, along with several newer songs. In between hits like “Carolina on my Mind,” “Sweet Baby James,” and “Fire and Rain,” he charmed the audience with stories of his life as a young artist. His 2014 tour will continue with concerts scheduled in South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland within the next week. The rock-folk musician's warm voice, poetic lyrics and melodic chords have enchanted audiences around the world for over 40 years. Taylor has sold over 100 million records with gold, platinum and multi-platinum status as well as becoming a recognizable figure in his philanthropic pursuits. Taylor's singles, from "Fire and Rain" to "You've Got a Friend", have garnered numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, five Grammys and most recently, the National Medal of Arts, awarded to him by President Obama.
The Boston born singer was raised in North Carolina, and began playing music at a young age. His gentle tenor vocals were flawlessly matched by sensitive lyrics and easy stage presence, and his jazz-folk tunes were the perfect accompaniment to a generation of disenchanted, inward-looking baby boomers.
