Bruce Hornsby Tour News and Updates
Bruce Hornby is the talented composer, pianist and singer behind timeless hit song "That's Just the Way it Is." Hornsby was inspired to take up piano by Elton John and infuses his skilled playing with pop, jazz, bluegrass and 60s soul. Hornsby's impeccable dexterity has made him a sought-after studio musician (Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks) and touring partner (Grateful Dead).
Hornsby's Grammy-winning debut album, That's Just the Way It Is", spawned three Top 20 hits, most notably the title track which remains his greatest work to date. The song contemplates the Civil Rights Movement, refusing racial inequity and the status quo. "That's Just the Way it Is" has been sampled by numerous artists, primarily from the rap and hip-hop genre, and most notably by Tupac Shakur in the famed song "Changes."
Though his songs endure in popular music, Hornsby is beloved for his spontaneous live shows. The musician does not have a set list for concerts, instead comprising them from audience requests. Concertgoers write suggestions on pieces of paper, which they place on stage; the pianist then forms them into a collage to play out the night. This year, the pianist will head on the road for four solo shows (Peachtree 6/21, Knoxville 6/22, Athens 6/23, Ashland 6/28) and five concerts with acclaimed jazz guitarist Pat Metheny (7/18-8/8).
