Arctic Monkeys Tour News and Updates
2014 AM Tour
The Arctic Monkeys are spearheading the crescendo of neo-punk, indie rock revival in popular music. Their sound is distinct, welding the likes of Franz Ferdinand, the Clash and the Strokes into top-charting rock n' roll hits since the mid-2000s. The band of high school friends, Alex Turner (frontman), Jamie Cook (guitar), Matt Helders (drums) and Andy Nicholson (bass)—later replaced by Nick O'Malley—began recording demos in their native Sheffield, England in 2002 and quickly generated a fan base on the Internet on their own, eschewing the music industry's typical rise to fame.
The foursome rose to mega popularity in 2005, when the teenagers released Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not—the fastest-selling debut album in UK history. Staying true to their indie-roots, Arctic Monkeys opted to sign with DIY record label Domino, and still managed to top the charts with debut single "I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down." The quartet has garnered numerous accolades, including making NME's Top Five British albums ever released, winning the Mercury Prize (donating all prize money to charity), and taking three Best Album and Best Group honors at the BRIT Awards, plus countless more.
They've been likened to Oasis and Blur as far as British, and international, meteoric fame goes, and the band won't be slowing down any time soon. Arctic Monkeys just released their 5th studio effort AM, with hit song "Do I Wanna Know?" lighting up stations across the globe. Arctic Monkeys followed up the release of their 2014 tour dates with the addition of Bonnaroo (6/12-6/15), Lollapalooza (headlining 8/1) and two more shows in SoCal: SDSU Open Air Theater in San Diego (8/6) and Staples Center in Los Angeles (8/7). Lock in your Arctic Monkeys tickets now and see this brilliant British rock band live!
