Janelle Monae is a multi talented R&B singer, dancer, composer, and producer at the age of 27. Hailing from Kansas City, Monae had a tight following in the mid 2000s, but she took the music scene by storm in 2010 with “Tightrope” from her first studio album The ArchAndroid
. Monae achieved even more success when she teamed up with the band Fun
, in March 2012 to release “We Are Young,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Monae’s sound is unique and fresh, crossing all genres from soul to classical, funk to electric, and rap to pop, and has earned her seven Grammy nominations.

in September of this year and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Monae was able to get high profile R&B artists to collaborate with her, including: Prince, Esperanza Spalding, Solange and Miguel.
