NAS 2014 Tour
Nasir Jones was born to a prolific jazz artist (Olu Dara) in Queensbridge, New York. He emerged as Kid Wave, later Nasty Nas, on the hip-hop scene in the mid-90s, making his debut on the song "Halftime," which won him a deal with Columbia Records. Since then, he's released eight consecutive multi-platinum albums and has sold over 25 million records around the world. Nas is one of the preeminent figures in hip-hop and rap music over the last 20 years and is considered one of the greatest MCs of all time (MTV), thanks to his debut album Illmatic. It is a milestone in rap music and a masterpiece that's considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Illmatic is heralded for its highly literate and poetic storytelling which both illuminates the dismal realities of a bleak world and provides hope for the future.
Nas' career has been filled with constant pressure, drama and criticism, but also much success and legendary acclaim. The self-proclaimed King of NY had a very public feud with Jay-Z in the wake of Notorious B.I.G.'s murder, though the two heavy-hitters have since grown into alliance, with Nas now signed to Carter's Def Jam Records. His most recent album, Life is Good, was inspired by his divorce with singer Kelis; on the cover he holds her wedding dress.
