DJ SHADOW Tour News and Updates
Known ubiquitously as a pioneer in the development of instrumental hip-hop, Joshua Paul Davis, better known as DJ Shadow, is a prominent producer and turntablist. This plunderphonics pro has a famously extensive library of records primarily inspired by the early years of hip-hop, which makes him a must-see DJ worldwide. DJ Shadow got his start on the college radio waves in the otherwise musically vacant expanse of Davis, CA. His work eventually caught the attention of those in the Bay Area, and the young DJ found himself signed to the London-based label Mo’Wax.
His debut full-length album was released in the mid-90s to popular and critical acclaim. DJ Shadow soon became a major figure in the hyphy genre of music out of Northern California, working extensively with E-40 and Keek Da Sneak as seen on his 2006's highly anticipated “The Outsiders” album. The record also features a song with Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest), which ultimately landed him a slot on David Letterman. In the mid to late 2000s, DJ Shadow released solo works, dubbed “The 4-Track Era Collection,” and simultaneously collaborated with Cut Chemist. Over the years, the hip-hop duo crafted genre-busting mixes that are some of the most prized rarities in the world of electronic music.
Due to the overhaul in contemporary electronic music and rise of EDM, a longing for old school is as amplified as ever. Last year, DJ Shadow played over 100 shows, and is now teaming up with longtime friend Cut Chemist on the 2014 “Renegades of Rhythm” tour. The producer/DJ duo will kick things off at Toronto’s Guvernment on 9/1, hitting nearly every major city in North America, before wrapping up at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on 10/9. The shows will celebrate hip-hop/rap legend and music pioneer Afrika Bambaataa’s records and flip them into something different while honoring his untouchable legacy.
