Cut Chemist Tour News and Updates
Whether with underground rap legends Jurassic 5 or with Latin funkadelics Ozomatli, Cut Chemist is a seminal DJ known universally as one of the most skilled artists around the globe. Born Lucas MacFadden, Cut Chemist first emerged out of Los Angeles as a member of rap group Unity Committee, which joined with Rebels of Rhythm to form Jurassic 5. Thanks to his encyclopedic knowledge of music, Cut Chemist is also a successful producer,
… moreresponsible for Jurassic 5’s eponymous debut record and “Lesson 6.”
He went solo in the mid-90s, and debuted “Live at the Future Primitive Sound Session” before teaming up with DJ Shadow for a series of popular mixes in San Francisco. The duo produced some of the most coveted tracks at the dawn of the century including the “Brainfreeze” recording. Cut Chemist continued to release works like “Product Placement,” “Litmus Test” and “The Audience’s Listening.” In 2010, the genre-busting turntablist dropped “Sound of the Police” that heavily incorporated Ethiopian and Afro-Brazilian sound.
Cut Chemist is tag teaming with longtime friend DJ Shadow for this year's “Renegades of Rhythm” tour. The producer/DJ duo will kick things off at Toronto’s Guvernment on 9/1, hitting major cities across North America, before wrapping up at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on 10/9. The shows will celebrate hip-hop/rap legend and music pioneer Afrika Bambaataa’s records and flip them into something different while honoring his untouchable legacy. With Cut Chemist tickets you can see the best in the business craft never-before-heard music from old school records across six turntables, two mixers a drum machine, as well as vintage DJ equipment and wax from Bambaataa’s personal archives.
