Kansas City Chiefs - A Closer Look
Of course everybody loves a winner, and holders of
Kansas City Chiefs tickets are no different in that regard. Last year’s record of 4-12 was less than scintillating, and, as the Pioli-Haley regime moves into its second season, major changes can be expected. Perhaps the biggest offseason addition has been in the coaching ranks as a pair of former
New England coordinators, Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel, will run the offense and defense respectively. Weis will welcome back Jamal Charles, who averaged 5.9 yards a carry and rushed for 100 yards in four consecutive games at the end of last year. Added to the mix will be veteran Thomas Jones and explosive rookie scatback/receiver Dexter McCluster. Defensively, holders of
Kansas City Chiefs tickets should appreciate watching stud defensive back Eric Berry, taken fifth overall, for years to come.
One can only hope that the team returns to its winning ways, as the
Kansas City Chiefs are one of the legendary franchises in AFL-NFL history. It all started when Lamar Hunt was denied by the
NFL in his bid to bring an expansion franchise to his native Dallas. Hunt responded by gathering a group of supporters and starting his own league, the AFL, in 1960. In doing so, Hunt established his own team, the Dallas Texans, to rival the NFL’s
Dallas Cowboys. After two seasons, however, Hunt moved his team to Missouri where, in 1963, they became the Kansas City Chiefs. The love affair between Hunt’s newly arrived franchise and many a Chiefs tickets holder began instantly. Under initial head coach Hank Stram they became the dominant team in the AFL, winning three league championships. The latter two of these championships, in ’66 and ’69, sent the team to the Super Bowls I and IV respectively, losing to Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers in the first go-round and then upsetting the Minnesota Vikings to win a
Super Bowl title in ’69. In fact, it was Lamar Hunt himself who helped to organize the AFL-NFL Championship Game in the first place and actually coined the phrase “Super Bowl” as the name for the game.
Kansas City Chiefs tickets holders, along with all of the NFL, have come to appreciate Lamar Hunt as one of the fathers of modern NFL football.
