It may be hard to believe, but college football is right around the corner. And for all you NCAA football fans out there, the season can’t get here fast enough. The first college games begin on Thursday, Sept. 1, but the action really heats up on Saturday, Sept. 3. One of the biggest, most anticipated games on the slate in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game: Georgia Bulldogs vs. N.C. Tar Heels. The annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game is a great way to begin the season, and this year’s matchup between the SEC power Bulldogs and ACC force Tar Heels promises to the thrilling to the final whistle. Tickets to the game, held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, are available starting at $168.
Since 2008, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has been a highly anticipated contest between two traditional college football powers. Last season, Auburn took down Louisville 31-24. In only one of the previous eight games was there not at least one ranked team. In four matchups, both teams have been ranked in the top 25.
Georgia will begin the 2016 season with new coach Kirby Smart at the helm. Smart was a longtime defensive coordinator at Alabama where he fashioned some of the country’s top defensive units during the Crimson Tide’s dominant run. The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back 10-3 seasons. Georgia has been to 19 straight bowl games and has been perennially ranked in the top 25.
North Carolina went 11-3 last season, enjoying one of its best seasons in years. The Tar Heels started off 11-1 and were ranked as high as No. 8 in the polls before losing to Clemson in the ACC title game and to high-powered Baylor 49-38 in the Quick Lane Bowl. North Carolina wound up finishing at No. 15 in the country, its first end-of-season ranking in 18 years. Under head coach Larry Fedora, the Tar Heels are looking to contend in the competitive ACC this season.
