On April 23rd I was fortunate enough to attend the boxing match featuring Gennady “GGG” Golovkin at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, CA. Having never been to the venue before I didn’t really know what to expect as my only knowledge of the arena is of being home to the Lakers and Kings back in the day. When you arrive at the Forum the first thing you notice is the atmosphere. This event was a championship bout featuring one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, and the buzz in the crowd was palpable. With the venue itself being so small, there were many kiosks and concession stands set up around the outside of the arena, and all of the stands had lines going around the block. There was official fight merchandise for sale as well as a Tecate sports bar featuring multiple televisions.
It is only upon entry to the Forum that you realize how special it is. The Forum is “intimate” to put it politely, small to be blunt. However, this guarantees that any seat you have in the house is a great seat. We didn’t have the best seats however we had a fantastic view of the ring. The ceiling of the forum has been outfitted to look like the night sky, letting you feel the vibe that you’re seeing a special event in the city of stars! Once the fighters begin to walk out there is a rush of humanity into the stadium the likes I haven’t seen at any other sporting event. The fighters walk out, the crowd cheers, and it’s go time. GGG took care of his opponent in two rounds. Savage artistry is what I’d call it. Once the fight was over it couldn’t have been easier to exit the venue as parking is located right across the street.
I would highly recommend the Forum as a venue for anyone wanting to see one of their favorite artists or fighters in live. The Forum is hosting many great events coming up, including UFC on June 4th and Twenty One Pilots on July 23rd. Be sure to check Razorgator.com for additional listings!
