Gwen Stefani and Eve reunite after 15 years to “Blow Ya Mind” this summer on tour

The early 2000s don’t get enough credit as an era in time that produced good music. One of the most fun duos from that period was the teaming up of No Doubt’s lead singer, Gwen Stefani, and the breakout female rapper, Eve.

If you loved the bad-girl vibe of the duo’s “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” or even Eve’s phenomenal solo single, “Who’s That Girl” you’re in luck, because Stefani announced they’ll be reuniting this summer on her “This is What the Truth Feels Like” tour, starting off at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts on July 12, and ending at the Forum in Los Angeles on October 15.

It will be the first time Stefani and Eve have made music together in 15 years.

E! Online called the ladies’ collaboration on “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” a “peak 2001” moment and we can see why. In an age where Rihanna’s NSFW video adventures include everything from kidnapping to cold-blooded murder, it’s easy to forget that in 2001 a couple of girls could get in trouble by just crashing a snobby party, where the height of their dastardly deeds involved swiping the mic from a prim rich woman and getting some stuffy people to take off their coats and dance.

Eve and Stefani again collaborated on the song, “Rich Girl” in 2004.

The tour will be in support of Stefani’s new album, “This is What the Truth Feels Like,” her first solo effort in 10 years.

Eve hasn’t released an album since her acclaimed “Lip Lock,” which featured the single “Eve,” a hard-edged, internationally-inspired track. She has been focusing on an acting career, and recently told Rap-Up TV an eventful personal life has kept her out of the recording studio recently. The Philly native married British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper in 2014 and moved to London.

“I moved to a new country, I got married. I just needed to settle again,” she explained.

But starring in Barbershop: The Next Cut with the likes of Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Common, Nicki Minaj and Tyga inspired her to get musical again. The movie opened over the weekend.

“Being on a set like Barbershop and being with so many people,” she said. “You get inspired and I’m in a nice place now where I do feel inspired.”

Gwen Stefani has of course kept herself busy with a string of life events that have included having children and splitting with her husband, Gavin Rosdale, only to start a relationship with her fellow coach on The Voice, Blake Shelton. Hollywood Life calls Stefani’s new album “her best work yet.”

Stefani told TIME Magazine that making the album helped her survive her divorce.

“It was really a life-saver record for me,” Stefani told TIME. “It wasn’t until I had to go through the worst tragedy that it really opened up a channel for me to be like, ‘God gave me a gift. I’m going to use it now. Because if I don’t, I’m going to die.’”

Stefani famously started out as the lead singer of the Anaheim-based post-grunge ska band No Doubt – where she first made waves as a peroxide blonde with an ever-exposed mid-drift who had so much attitude she could pull of any look. Pitchfork now calls her “an ageless pop star dealing with her personal drama not just in the tabloids, but on record.”

While the album is personal and vulnerable, Pitchfork points out that there are glimpses of the scrappy, street-wise and always eccentrically cool Gwen that came out of the Southern California garage band scene of the 1990s.

Eve will be Stefani’s opening act for the 27-date tour, which Stefani announced via her Twitter account. Here’s a full list of Gwen Stefani tour dates and locales.
