2016 Coldplay Tour – A Head Full of Dreams

Seven studio albums, seven worldwide tours—those are the numbers for Coldplay, nearly 20 years after the British rock outfit first assembled. As March 2016 comes to a close, the band will launch their A Head Full of Dreams Tour, starting in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 40-date run will touch down in 18 countries by its conclusion, including stops in seven major U.S. cities. Here’s everything you need to know before the show.

Overwhelming Enthusiasm

On February 2, it was announced that due to an insatiable demand for tickets, three additional United States performances have been added to Coldplay’s 2016 tour:

July 17 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ
July 24 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL
August 21 at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, CA

With an estimated million-plus sales worldwide and No. 1 peak rankings on the U.S. and U.K. digital albums charts for A Head Full of Dreams, it’s no surprise that the demand rapidly outpaced the supply for Coldplay tickets.

Their latest studio effort, released in December 2015, has already been certified Gold in six different countries and Platinum in seven more. Frontman Chris Martin has noted that the album was written with live performances specifically in mind, so fans can definitely look forward to something special when he and the band take the stage.

Audience Input

In an interview with The Sun, Martin noted the band’s intention to take song requests from the audience during shows. He envisions a booth where concertgoers will be able to request their songs while offering a few words about what makes the tunes significant to them personally, in order to add purpose to the performance.

Going Big

Their 2016 trek will mark Coldplay’s first trip through the United States since their 2011 Mylo Xyloto Tour, a smashing success in its own right. That run also included 40 stops on five different continents, racking up attendance figures in excess of three million.

Although to date, just 10 shows are scheduled on U.S. soil, the band has taken steps to make sure audience space will be plentiful: the North American leg of the Head Full of Dreams Tour will take place exclusively within major sports stadiums, a testament to the British rockers’ ability to draw truly impressive crowds.
