NHL Stanley Cup Finals Tickets

Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Rangers

For the first time since 1981, it’s New York vs. Los Angeles in the postseason! The Rangers have not been to the Stanley Cup Finals in 20 years and based on the average price of Cup tickets, interest in NYC is reaching Super Bowl heights. A potential Game 6 at MSG is just $84 cheaper than 2014 Super Bowl tickets in New Jersey and over three games, Stanley Cup Finals tickets are an average $2,885. Ticket prices in Los Angeles however, are about half the cost with Game 7 Stanley Cup Finals prices going for cheaper than any Rangers Cup game. With that, Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Finals tickets are just 11.5 percent more expensive than 2012 Stanley Cup Finals tickets in Los Angeles when the Kings took on the Devils. Two years ago, the average was a sum of three games instead of four as LA holds home-ice advantage in 2014. The Kings vs. Rangers series is 62 percent more expensive than last year when 2013 Stanley Cup Finals tickets between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins averaged $1386. To compare, Game 3 and 4 tickets in Boston last year averaged $1134 and $1143 respectively. While the average price of New York Rangers Stanley Cup tickets have fallen since an opponent was determined, all three get-in prices have shot up since Friday.

NHL Playoff Tickets: Conference Finals

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Chicago Blackhawks (3) vs. Los Angeles Kings (3)

The Los Angeles Kings eliminated the Anaheim Ducks to end the first-ever Stanley Cup Playoff Freeway Faceoff with a dominating Game 7 performance (6-2). Los Angeles seems to perform best with their backs against the wall, going 6-0 in elimination games this year, and they may find themselves in another corner soon. After all, the Hawks are the defending Stanley Cup Champions, with Corey Crawford, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane trouncing the Minnesota Wild in the previous series to advance. Since losing on Sunday (1-3), Los Angeles trails Chicago in the Western Conference Finals by one game. Last year, the Blackhawks took the Kings down in five games, but they’ll have to do so again against a Los Angeles team with three legitimate Conn Smythe Trophy contenders: Anze Koptiar, Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick. Who will be crowned Western Conference Champions and advance to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals? Both teams are resilient and experienced—this one’s a toss-up!

When the two teams faced off in the 2013 Western Conference Finals, tickets averaged $611. Heading into the 2014 West Finals, tickets averaged $471, 23 percent less than last year. While Los Angeles Kings tickets are up 14 percent in price for games at Staples Center, Chicago Blackhawks tickets are down a drastic 31 percent. Like I noted to the Sun Sentinel, “We see this often with ‘repeat’ action – fans have already seen the matchup … and it’s not new and shiny to them.” NBA Eastern Conference Finals tickets are seeing a similar trend: prices are down 24% to see a repeat Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers matchup.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Montreal Canadiens (3) vs. New York Rangers (2)

The 2014 Eastern Conference Final is set! After a grueling Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, in which both teams played do-or-die Game 7s, the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers will square off at Bell Centre on Saturday for Game 1 (5/17). The Canadiens fought their way to the conference final with an astounding 3-1 victory over the No. 1 seeded Boston Bruins; while New York punched their ticket to Round 3 after Tuesday’s 2-1 stunner over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers were victims of a “stupid schedule” (as eloquently stated by Head Coach Alain Vigneault), but showed impressive strength by narrowing in on Crosby and Co. for the advance. Montreal may be victors of the most heated rivalry in the NHL, but they’ll look to dial up the aggression when they play the Rangers fresh off some much-needed postseason rest. The Habs and Rangers were certainly underdogs in the previous round, but after slaying their opponents in epic Game 7s, there is no underestimating either team anymore.

The average price of NHL Eastern Conference Finals tickets was $745 Thursday following both Original Six teams clinching. To compare, 2013 Eastern Conference Finals tickets between the Penguins and Bruins averaged $605 ($140 less). New York Rangers playoff tickets (avg. $715) over three games at Madison Square Garden are 14% higher than they were in the Divisional Finals. Despite being the lower seed, the Montreal Canadiens will have home-ice advantage having tallied more points in the regular season than the NYR.

NHL Playoff Tickets: Second Round – Divisional Finals

The first game of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs starts tonight with the Montreal Canadiens visiting TD Garden to face the Boston Bruins. As a result of the new NHL realignment and playoff format, more favorable matchups have ensued pinning crosstown rivals Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks together for the first time in the postseason and the most storied rivalry of all-time Boston Bruins against the Montreal Canadiens. With the realignment’s purpose of reducing travel and geographically mapping divisions so that teams were in the same time-zones was accomplished and brought to the forefront here in the playoffs. Fans will travel less distance to attend an away game which makes the demand for NHL Playoffs tickets surge. Between so-called better matchups and the close proximity of opponents, Stanley Cup playoff tickets in the second round are up 40 percent over last year. Five of this year’s eight divisional finals teams also played in last year’s second round.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Anaheim Ducks (1) vs. Los Angeles Kings (3)

Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks fans have been waiting two decades for the Freeway Faceoff to go down in the postseason. Now, thanks to the new postseason format, the two are finally set on a Round 2 collision course in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Los Angeles is riding high after defeating San Jose in Round 1′s Battle of California, while Anaheim beat Dallas in six crisp games. The Kings are just the fourth NHL team to erase a 3-0 deficit and take a best-of-seven series, and two years ago, they were the first No. 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup. Anaheim led the conference in points during the regular season and defeated LA in the regular season series with a dominating 4-1 record. Both big squads are convinced they’ll make it to the Stanley Cup Final, so get ready for this SoCal rivalry to reach unprecedented heights in Round 2.

05/16/14 TBD Kings at Ducks – HG 4 – Game 7 (If Nec.) Honda Center Anaheim $350.11

Chicago Blackhawks (3) vs. Minnesota Wild (4)

It certainly was a wild ride for Minnesota, who smashed the Avalanche in a high-throttle Game 7 match. In the process, Minnesota lost goaltender Darcy Kuemper after a behind-the-net with teammate Ryan Suter, and his return is questionable. After losing the first two Round 1 matches in overtime, the Chicago Blackhawks came back and defeated St. Louis in four straight contests to advance. Minnesota has the upper hand in the regular season, winning their series 3-2, but can backup goalie Ilya Brygalov maintain composure against Chicago’s Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith? The Hawks ended Minnesota’s season one year ago, eliminated in five games, and went on to win the Cup. These two are meeting in the postseason for the second straight year–is Minnesota doomed for another early exit?

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Boston Bruins (1) vs. Montreal Canadiens (3)

In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, rivalry is fun, but hate is even better. The shared enmity between Original Six members, the Bruins and Canadiens, will reignite in the Eastern Conference’s can’t-miss tilt. The Bruins beat Detroit in five impressive games, while the Canadiens took down Tampa Bay in four to become the only team with a first-round sweep. These teams have met in 33 playoff series since 1929, with Montreal taking the cake with 24 wins; during the regular season, too, Montreal came up 3-1 over the beastly Bruins. Still, Boston’s tough defense, led by net minder Tuukka Rask, will pose a great challenge for Thomas Vanek and Tomas Plekanec on Montreal. No NHL rivalry is more storied than this one. Gear up for what may be the grittiest series in Round 2 of postseason play.

Date Time NHL Divisional Finals: Canadiens vs. Bruins Venue City Avg. Price
05/01/14 7:30PM Canadiens at Bruins – HG 1 – Game 1 TD Garden Boston $262.25

05/14/14 TBD Canadiens at Bruins – HG 4 – Game 7 (If Nec.) TD Garden Boston $674.52

Pittsburgh Penguins (1) vs. New York Rangers (2)

The Pittsburgh Penguins entered the 2014 postseason as Metropolitan champs, achieving the largest division margin in the NHL with 13 more points than the runner-up New York Rangers. The Pens were uncharacteristically shaky in Round 1, ultimately beating Columbus in six games, while the Rangers endured a grueling series with Philadelphia, eventually rising up in Game 7 to advance. Just a few days after taking down another Pennsylvania team with back-to-back Games 6 & 7, a fatigued New York squad will face a refreshed Pittsburgh squad on three-day’s rest. Though the Penguins have won all four Stanley Cup Playoff series they’ve had against New York, Marc Andre-Fleury gave up 18 goals against the Blue Jackets in Round 1. The goalie will have to buckle down when Sidney Crosby tries to end his 11 game playoff goal drought in Round 2.

Date Time NHL Divisional Finals: Rangers vs. Penguins Venue City Avg. Price
05/02/14 7:00PM Rangers at Penguins – HG 1 – Game 1 Consol Energy Center Pittsburgh $255.61
05/04/14 7:30PM Rangers at Penguins – HG 2 – Game 2 Consol Energy Center Pittsburgh $278.72

05/13/14 TBD Rangers at Penguins – HG 4 – Game 7 (If Nec.) Consol Energy Center Pittsburgh $597.32

NHL Playoff Tickets: First Round – Divisional Semifinals

The NHL’s regular season officially closed Sunday and matchups for the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs were set. Action starts tonight at 7PM EST when new division rivals Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning meet in the First Round of the NHL Playoffs. The new bracket format has divisional matchups taking place in the first two rounds, with wild cards (Columbus, Detroit, Minnesota, Dallas) being able to cross over regardless of division, and no reseeding of the 16 teams after each round. Get ready for two months of postseason action in one of the most exciting tournaments in all of sports!

The first round of the NHL playoffs kicks off Wednesday with three games, Thursday with four, and Friday with one. If any of the eight series goes to Game 7, we are looking at two weeks of Divisional Semifinals hockey. Last year, we referred to this round as the Conference Quarterfinals. 2013 NHL playoff tickets in the first round averaged $306; 2014 NHL playoff tickets in the first round are a much cheaper $233. Like last year, Anaheim Ducks first round playoff tickets are the cheapest of the teams to qualify and Eastern Conference teams are more expensive (avg. $280) than Western Conference teams (avg. $190) combined. At first glance, it may surprise fans that the weaker of the two conferences boasts higher ticket prices (only the Boston Bruins tallied more than 110 points); but, the East does offer some exciting match-ups in the first round, especially the rivalry showdown between the Rangers and Flyers and the budding rivalry between neighboring Blue Jackets and Penguins (avg. $277).

  • Most Expensive First Round Series:  Rangers vs. Flyers (avg. $305)
  • Most Expensive First Round Game in Series: Game 7 (avg. $347)
  • Most Expensive NHL Team: New York Rangers (avg. $418)
  • Cheapest First Round Series: Stars vs. Ducks (avg. $129)
