One Step at a Time George Strait Nears Final Tour Show

“The King of Country” George Strait announced the final leg of his The Cowboy Rides Away farewell tour yesterday at a press conference at AT&T Stadium, the site of the Texas crooner’s last show. Although a date for his final concert is still TBD, all other two dozen 2014 tour dates and venues have been revealed. Some of Country’s best will join Strait on tour including former opening acts Miranda Lambert (2006) and Martina McBride (2013).

While the Country Music Hall of Famer announced his retirement from extensive touring in September of 2012 following The Cowboy Rides Away tour, Strait did sign a deal for five more studio albums. With that, music experts expect George Strait to do intermittent shows with the release of new music.

A limited number of George Strait tickets for his farewell tour are available on Razorgator. The supply of tickets is expected to increase after the 9/27 on-sale. Behind Stagecoach, the CMA Music Festival, and Tim McGraw, George Strait tickets are currently the most expensive of the Country genre averaging $372.

(Announcement begins at the 9:35 mark)

To give you an idea of just how popular the 61 year-old singer is, consider this: twenty one of the most high profiled musicians performed at Rodeo Houston last year, George Strait was the only performer to sell out his concert. Rodeo Houston tickets for every performer were available for under $35, the get-in price to see Strait: $152. Leg 1 of The Cowboy Rides Away Tour averaged $242 on the secondary market (the most expensive of the the eleven Houston Rodeo artists on tour at the time and twice the cost of Tim McGraw tickets); tickets to see George Strait at Rodeo Houston averaged $410. Mind you he was performing on the final day of the Rodeo; but there’s a reason why homegrown Strait was chosen to close, he’s legendary! To compare, the next most expensive concert at Rodeo Houston averaged $112, that was Blake Shelton’s 3/15 performance.
