College Football’s Most Intriguing Games of 2013 vs. Ticket Price

Recently, Yahoo! Sports’ national college columnist Pat Forde put together a list of the Top 25 Most Intriguing games in College Football this season. With this information, we took a look at the top college football games by price and compared.

Lucky for College Football fans, the biggest game of the season comes at the beginning. Alabama vs. Texas A&M is both the most intriguing game this season and the highest priced. We all know that A&M and Johnny Manziel were the only team to beat the National Champs last season; like Forde mentions, it’s a game that everyone has been looking forward to since five minutes after last season ended. The highly sought-after tickets for the No. 1 College Football game in 2013 are averaging $750, up $127 since July 16. Texas A&M tickets are averaging $195 for games played in College Station this year, a price that could see a steep fall should Manziel be found guilty of a recent NCAA investigation alleging that he received money for signing autographs. Alabama tickets on the road are the second most expensive in the NCAA, which has also contributed to the high priced game.

Unlike the most intriguing game of the 2013 College Football season, the second – Oregon Ducks vs. Stanford Cardinal – has a much cheaper ticket. Cardinal and Ducks fans can purchase almost 5 tickets to the game for the price of a single Alabama vs. Texas A&M ticket. Ranked #3 and #4 respectively in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the two Pac-12 North teams will play in Palo Alto for (likely) the chance to play in the Pac-12 Championship game as well as a BCS Bowl Game. But like Texas A&M, Stanford handed Oregon their only loss of the season last year on their home turf. A common theme of revenge appears to contribute to the intrigue factor. The game is not the most expensive to be played at Stanford Stadium this year; that game is Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Stanford Cardinal, also on Forde’s list of most intriguing College Football games. This season Stanford tickets average $102, the cheapest of the top 5 teams in the Coaches Poll. Like Alabama, Oregon has one of the most expensive road tickets in College Football.

The average College Football tickets cost the consumer $108 on the secondary market. Three of the Top 25 most intriguing games have a ticket price below that average: Western Kentucky vs. Kentucky, Louisville vs. Cincinnati, and Florida State vs. Pittsburgh.
