While he hasn’t had quite as big a week as his friend Kanye West, Jay-Z did make a major announcement this weekend. During Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Samsung showed a 3-minute commercial revealing the release of Jay’s new album. Titled Magna Carta Holy Grail, the album will be available for free to one million Samsung phone owners this coming Independence Day and available to the general public on July 7.
The advertisement, shown above, also highlights album collaborators Timbaland, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, and legendary hip hop producer Rick Rubin. It is also a good bet that Justin Timberlake will be featured on the album. Magna Carta will come just in time for Jay-Z’s Legends of Summer Tour with Timberlake and its already been confirmed that the duo have recorded more yet unreleased music. With the tour starting on July 17 in Toronto, most fans will have at least two weeks to apply the new tracks to memory before hearing them on stage.
The average price for the Legends of Summer Tour is $242. The most expensive venue is the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with an average price of $416. The least expensive is Hershey Park in Pennsylvania, with an average price of $180. While there hasn’t been much change in prices following Jay-Z’s announcement, it will be interesting to see if demand begins to rise in the near future. Expect the first single on Magna Carta to be released in the next few weeks. It is also likely that Justin Timberlake will release new music from Part 2 of his 20/20 Experience album, expected to be released on September 30 .
