Cuban rookie Yasiel Puig was named NL Player of the Week just seven days into his major league career. The outfielder made his debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 3, and in just his second game, Puig hit two home runs and drove in five. A grand slam Friday night contributed to his .464 batting average heading into Monday’s game against the Diamondbacks. His bat isn’t the only thing that is hot – he has had two spot on throws this last week. One was a game-ending double play, another cutting off the infield for a huge out at third base.
So, has the star Rookie’s success impacted the price of Dodgers tickets? The answer is no. On May 30, the average price of Dodgers tickets for the remainder of the season was $70.22. On June 10, the average was just cents more at $70.74. On May 30, the cost of Dodgers tickets for Games between June 10 and the end of the month at Dodgers Stadium were averaging $33.88. Today, Dodgers tickets for those same games are averaging $31.33. Dodgers tickets in both May and June have been cheapest in the League. A great deal considering baseball fans can now catch the hottest player in MLB at such a low price. Ticket prices to the Diamondbacks series have dropped 34 percent since May 30. Dodgers-Giants tickets have taken a 7 percent drop and Dodgers-Phillies an 8 percent decline. The Dodgers will need more than just a hot bat and fire arm from Puig to get out of last place in the NL West. Perhaps if the Rookie can ignite a spark in Matt Kemp and Adrian Gonzalez, demand among true blue fans will rise.

Ironically I just got a text, “Do you want to go to the Dodgers game tonight?” Perhaps I’m already witnessing the rise in interest of the Dodgers ball club. The search for ‘Los Angeles Dodgers’ according to Google Trends was at an all-time high yesterday (in the last 30 days). Google searches for ‘Los Angeles Dodgers’ have risen 58% since Puig’s major league debut.
