Following his domination of Robert Guerrero earlier this month, Floyd Mayweather took to twitter last night to announce his next fight with Canelo Alvarez on September 14.
I chose my opponent for September 14th and it's Canelo Alvarez. I'm giving the fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand.

While many fans would still prefer the blockbuster fight with Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather is being commended for his choice of Alvarez as an opponent. The 22-year old Mexican is 13 years younger than Mayweather, undefeated, and an emerging star in the sport. Mayweather will also move up to light-middleweight for just the third time in his career to fight the bigger Alvarez. With the fight being held in Las Vegas on the weekend of Mexican Independence Day, Alvarez will likely be the crowd favorite.
Facing possibly the toughest test of his career, Mayweather is considered the favorite at -280. By comparison, in his last two fights, Mayweather was favored -750 against Guerrero and -700 against Miguel Cotto. The date that tickets will be released has not yet been announced, but expect higher prices and demand than Mayweather-Guerrero. We will have pricing data as soon as tickets are available, so check back for updates.
