Brooklyn Nets Roster Breakdown

Backcourt

  • Jay-Z has got 99 problems but a premiere starting five ain’t one.  The addition of Joe Johnson is going to make for a formidable Eastern Conference backcourt with superstar point guard Deron Williams.
  • Joe Johnson realized that the Atlanta Hawks could only go as far as the first round of the playoffs and the Brooklyn Nets are on the upswing.  The Nets have a strong young nucleus and Joe Johnson takes this group to another level with his playoff experience.

Frontcourt

  • Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, and Brook Lopez will be in the frontcourt for the Nets.
  • Gerald Wallace is an athletic PF that averaged 15.2 PPG and 6.8 RPG last season with the Nets. Brooklyn needs Gerald Wallace to be a big game player if they are going to be an elite Eastern Conference team.
  • Nets fans are hoping that Kris Humphries has had his share of reality television because he can be effective on the court.  Humphries averaged 13.8 points and 11 rebounds in the 2011-2012 season.
  • Brook Lopez has the opportunity to be an elite 7 foot center on an important team in the NBA.  Lopez average 19.2 points but just a measly 3.6 rebounds last season.  He needs to be aggressive, put his body on the line, and grab more boards.  Lopez will be the x-factor for this team.  If he scored 20 points a night and grabbed 10 rebounds a game, then the Nets will find their season go a lot smoother.

Bench

  • C.J. Watson has gone from backing up one of the best point guards in Derrick Rose to backing up the equally talented Deron Williams.
  • Shelden Williams is also a notable bench player and will provide some solid minutes for Coach Avery Johnson.
  • Rookie Tyshawn Taylor averaged 16.6 points and 4.8 assists his senior year at Kansas.  Avery Johnson is going to be pleased with the new talent provided to him by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

Salary Issues

  • The Brooklyn Nets are locked into contracts that leave no breathing room.  The Nets absorbed the four years left on Joe Johnson’s six year $120 million deal that the Atlanta Hawks were going to pay him.  Deron Williams will be making $98.8 million over five years. Brooklyn’s current line up is good but can they compete with LeBron and the Heat?

The Barclays Center

The Barclays Center will provide a fitting home for the touted Brooklyn Nets.  The Barclays Center will also be the venue of top artist, such as Nets part-owner, Jay-Z.   The hip-hop mogul has announced that he will be doing eight shows at the Barclays Center including the christening performance of the center. On the ice, the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders will debut at the Brooklyn center.  Brooklyn’s own Barbara Streissand is also scheduled for two shows at the Barclays Center

New York Sports Teams

New York has a rich tradition in championships.  This is a city that expects great sports teams and there is pressure on these teams to perform every night.

The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball and intend to bring a championship home in 2012. The New York Mets are once again battling for a right to dethrone the Yankees and be the best team in baseball.

The New York Jets have been in the headlines because it’s Tebow time once again, this time it is in New York.  The Jets will be using both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow in hopes to extend their run in the playoffs this season.  Eli Manning and the the defending champions, the New York Giants are looking to maintain their ability to win big games in the NFL.

Steve Nash is on the Lakers and Rick Nash is in a Rangers uniform.  The New York Rangers will be sharing the Barclays Center (for a preseason game against the Islanders) with the Brooklyn Nets.  They have a bright future with Nash.
