Emerging (Young) Artist: MattyB Raps

[[posterous-content:pid___0]] Matthew Morris resembles that of a miniature Justin Bieber, from his fittingly boyish haircut to his YouTube generated fame, where his most viewed video has already reached over 25 million hits. This small star has covered artists like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepson, and of course, Justin Bieber, and he hasn’t even lived a full decade yet. Born in January 2003, the Atlanta native took an interest in rapping at the ripe age of five. His older cousin, Mars, is also a rapper and helped MattyB cover  his first song by Justin Bieber, Eenie Meenie. The video gained popularity fast, and within a week was featured on YouTube’s homepage.

MattyB seems to have a strong and supportive family surrounding him. His father, Blake Morris, manages and produces MattyB’s music from their home, where they have a recording studio. His mother believes he is too young to make an album or go on tour, but supports his YouTube channel. MattyB has four siblings; older brothers, Blake Jr., John, and Joshua, and younger sister, Sarah Grace.

Recently, he has collaborated with the Cimorelli sisters on a parody of Carly Rae Jepson’s ‘Call Me Maybe’.   His rendition of Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ was only uploaded two months ago and has been viewed more than all of his other videos. His first original single, ‘Be Right There’, came out just over a week ago.
