Maroon 5 announce album release date: The band blew up the charts with last year’s smash “Moves Like Jagger”, and now fans have even more new music to look forward to. The band announced that their new studio LP Overexposed will be released on June 26. According to band members, it will be “diverse and poppy”, featuring co-writers, with the band has traditionally not incorporated. The album will feature 10 new songs, production credits by Max Martin, Benny Blanco, and Ryan Tedder, and a guest appearance by Wiz Khalifa on one of the tracks.

Justin Bieber releases new single “Boyfriend”: After months of teasing fans and dropping hints, Bieber finally released his new song “Boyfriend” off his forthcoming studio album Believe. It’s been 2 years since Bieber released My World 2.0, and his fandom is not known for their patience. Bieber has spent the past few months in the studio, working with everyone from Adam Levine to Drake to Lil Wayne to Timbaland. “Boyfriend”, co-produced by Mike Posner and Mike Posner, shows a more grown-up side of now 18-year old Justin, with more mature themes in his lyrics and his growth as an artist present in the music itself. Give it a listen for yourself on Billboard.

Taylor Swift to be honored by Michelle Obama: The First Lady will be honoring Swift with The Big Help Award at this weekends Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. The award recognizes Swift’s involvement with charities such as Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Medical Center, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Swift is known for her extreme generosity, notably giving away a large chunk of her earnings to fund music programs as a birthday gift to herself, and recently announcing that she will take a terminally ill cancer patient as her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards next week.

Katy Perry releases “Part of Me” music video: Perry released an unexpectedly serious video for her latest hit single. The video shows Perry catching her boyfriend being unfaithful and channeling her rage into enlisting for the Marine Corps. The video captures the girl power message of the song well, which is reportedly aimed at ex-husband Russell Brand. It shows a different side of Perry–self-assured, driven, and willing to take risks–which should translate well for her next full-length album. You can watch the video HERE.

“Hunger Games” soundtrack debuts at #1: The companion to the biggest movie in America this week, the album debuted in the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, the first soundtrack to do so since Michael Jackson’s This Is It in 2009. The Hunger Games album is the 16th soundtrack ever to debut at the number 1 spot. It features tracks by Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, The Civil Wars, Arcade Fire, and Miranda Lambert. The album sold 175,000 copies last week and will undoubtedly continue to bring in big numbers in the weeks following the movie release. Billboard posted an in-depth track-by-track analysis of the album, which can be found HERE.
