MARCH MADNESS: Early Reactions

Here at Razorgator, we currently have a company bracket on Yahoo. I, a student at Long Beach State, had my school going all the way and winning the championship. Naive? You bet. Delusional? Definitely. But you can’t blame me. We were one of the most dangerous mid-major teams in the tournament and I had complete faith that my boys would pull through. I am bitterly writing this post because my school is out of the tournament…

Okay, I’m kidding! I’m EXCITED about what’s been happening! March Madness gives you a reason to cheer for the mid-major and go against the evil empires of Duke and North Carolina. So without further ado, here are some early reactions to the tournament!

The Surprises

#5 Wichita State losing to #12 VCU

It was an exciting one between Virginia Commonwealth and Wichita State as they finished the game 62-59. Wichita State’s Garrett Stutz had an opportunity to tie the game with a three-pointer, but that was a miss and Wichita’s dream of the NCAA championship was busted, and so were many people’s brackets (including mine).

#11 Colorado defeating #6 UNLV

There was yet another upset in the second round as Colorado defeated UNLV 68-64. At one point in the game, Colorado was leading UNLV by 20 points. Up until this point, the Colorado Buffaloes weren’t a team that anyone knew about. Now with the defeat of UNLV, the Buffaloes have a chance to become this year’s Cinderella.

The Not-So-Suprises

These are teams that were expected to move on to the next round and did.

  • Kentucky
  • Louisville
  • Syracuse
  • Marquette
  • Ohio State

ROUND OF 32

With the second round wrapping up today, let’s look ahead at some of the match ups to watch for in the Round of 32.

Kansas State vs. Syracuse

After barely beating N.C. Asheville, the Orange hope to continue through the tournament without their star center. Can Syracuse defeat Kansas state without Fab Melo?

Vanderbilt vs. Wisconsin

Vanderbilt is ranked #5 while Wisconsin is ranked #4. It’s going to be interesting to see how these two teams will play ranking almost evenly.

Potential Upset

Colorado over Baylor

Colorado looked real good against UNLV, but can they pull yet another upset over Baylor? With the confidence that they currently have, it is entirely possible.
