The past few months have seen several young stars breaking out here in the States. Coincidentally, all of them started out big abroad before getting buzz on US airwaves. Here are 3 rising stars to watch out for:
Carly Rae Jepsen (British Columbia, Canada)
The 26-year old singer came in 3rd on Canadian Idol in 2007, but her career really skyrocketed when she recently signed with Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun. She released a video for her single “Call Me Maybe” but it was a homemade video of Bieber, his girlfriend Selena Gomez and a bunch of their friends singing along to the song that ensured that Jepsen would blow up (the video currently has over 16 million views). She released an album in February, right around the time she signed with Braun, and Bieber has confirmed that they will be working together in the future. She is currently on tour with pop group Hanson.
The Wanted (London, England)
This British and Irish boy band is made up of five 18-23 year olds. They have been gaining attention in the UK over the past 2 years, and recently broke into the US scene with the single “Glad You Came” and a US tour. 2012 will see them touring more across the US and Europe, and promoting their album which was released in November 2011. Rolling Stone mentioned them in their “On The Charts” writeup for this week too–check it out HERE.
One Direction (United Kingdom)
This supergroup was formed when all 5 members auditioned individually for UK’s X Factor in 2010. Judges suggested they form a group to compete, and they ended up taking 3rd. Their debut album will be released next week on March 13, featuring the chart-topping single “What Makes You Beautiful”. A tour with Big Time Rush has gained them plenty of attention, and they have developed a solid and crazed fan base among teenage girls and pop music lovers.
