The Outlook of the New York Knicks

J.R. Smith tweeted today that he is going to be joining the New York Knicks. Smith tweeted:

New York Knicks it is!

The details of the contract has not been released yet and Smith is expected to make his debut as early as Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks (RealGM).

With the emergence of Jeremy Lin, the return of Carmelo Anthony closing in, and the signing of J.R. Smith, how good is this Knick squad?

J.R. Smith will provide quality minutes off the bench as he’s done in the past for the Denver Nuggets. He will also be playing with his old teammate, Carmelo Anthony, whom he is very familiar with and will provided extra chemistry to the Knicks. J.R. Smith is also a lethal three point shooter which also benefits the Knicks because they aren’t exactly one of the best three point shooting teams in the NBA.

J.R. Smith will be joining Jeremy Lin, the man who has changed the basketball culture of New York overnight and single-handedly brought the Knicks back to playoff contention.

People questioned how Carmelo Anthony will fit with Jeremy Lin, but what people don’t know is that it was Melo who told Coach Mike D’Antoni to put Lin in the game. If it wasn’t for Melo, Linsanity may never happened and the NBA might have remained boring to mainstream America. So I expect Anthony to fit in pretty well with this new Knicks team.

With their current seven-game winning streak, the Knicks went from seemingly no playoff berth to scratching the 8th seed. With the return of Carmelo and the acquisition of J.R. Smith, the city of New York has plenty of be happy about it (especially since the Giants won the Super Bowl this year).

Will the Knicks continue their hot streak?
Probably.

Will the Knicks make the playoffs?
Most likely.

Will the Knicks win a championship?
We have to wait and see.
